NBA Siena 85 Cavaliers 91

Cavaliers coach Byron Scott isn’t in the habit of just handing a starting job to a player. He wants them to earn it. Such is the case of the starting shooting guard position. He started free-agent acquisition C.J. Miles at the “2” on Monday in the Cavaliers’ 91-85 victory over Montepaschi Siena in the preseason opener at Quicken Loans Arena. Scott doesn’t want first-round pick Dion Waiters to think he’s owed anything. Waiters has three weeks until the regular-season opener. That’s plenty of time to earn the job. However, Scott said he wouldn’t be surprised if the former Syracuse star comes off the bench for the first “10 to 15” games. Miles doesn’t sound like he’s ready to give up the position. “I guess you can look at it as being my job to lose,” he said. Miles fired in 10 points with three rebounds, three assists and three steals in 20 minutes on Monday. The 6-foot-6, 222-pounder made 4 of 5 from the field, 1 of 2 from the 3-point arc.
