NHL: Rangers end Canucks win streak

The Vancouver Canucks suffered their first regulation-time defeat in 18 games, beaten 1-0 by the New York Rangers in the NHL on Thursday.

The league-leading Canucks hadn’t lost before overtime since Dec. 5, but came out losers this time in the only meeting of these two sides this season.

Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves while the sole goal came from Wojtek Wolski, acquired this week from Phoenix. He knocked in a rebound on the power play at 7:18 of the second period.

COYOTES 5, MAPLE LEAFS 1

In Glendale, Arizona, Shane Doan scored the first of four third-period goals that pushed Phoenix to a comfortable win over Toronto.

Radim Vrbata, Taylor Pyatt, Lauri Korpikoski and Keith Yandle also scored as the Coyotes made it five wins from six games.

Toronto’s Colby Armstrong got his team’s sole goal with 3:52 left as the Leafs’ winning streak stopped at four.

OILERS 5, SHARKS 2

In San Jose, rookie star Taylor Hall scored twice to help Edmonton defeat San Jose.

Devan Dubnyk made 41 saves while Dustin Penner, Andrew Cogliano and Linus Omark also scored Edmonton, who had lost their previous three on the road.

Joe Thornton and Ryane Clowe scored power-play goals for the Sharks, who have lost six straight overall — their worst skid in 15 years — and also have dropped six in a row at home.

SENATORS 6, ISLANDERS 4

In Uniondale, New York, Ottawa snapped a six-game winless streak by defeating fellow struggler New York.

Robin Lehner made 20 saves in his first NHL start, while Daniel Alfredsson, Jesse Winchester, Milan Michalek, Chris Kelly, Nick Foligno and Zack Smith all found the net for Ottawa.

Trevor Gillies, Blake Comeau, P.A. Parenteau and Milan Jurcina scored for New York.

BRUINS 7, FLYERS 5

In Boston, the hosts piled on five goals in the third-period to overwhelm Philadelphia.

In a game that featured five lead changes, Brad Marchand tied it 5-5 and Steve Kampfer gave the Bruins the lead for good when he slapped in a shot that went inside the right post past a stunned Brian Boucher. Gregory Campbell added an empty-net goal to cap the scoring.
