Rangers snap Canucks' streak

Wojtek Wolski scored his first goal as a Ranger, Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves, and New York beat visiting Vancouver, 1-0, on Thursday night to end the Canucks' 17-game unbeaten streak in regulation time.

The NHL-best Canucks (28-9-6) hadn't lost before overtime since Dec. 5. They were 14-0-3 before meeting the Rangers for the only time this season. Lundqvist made a point-blank save on Alexandre Burrows in the closing seconds to help the Rangers (26-16-3) improve to a season-best 10 games over .500.

Elsewhere: Cody McCormick scored the go-ahead goal, got into a fight, and drew a key penalty in Buffalo's 3-2 victory over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes. Ryan Miller made 27 saves in cooling a Hurricanes offense that had 15 goals in its previous three games. . . . Robin Lehner made 20 saves in his first NHL start to help the Ottawa Senators snap a six-game winless streak with a 6-4 victory over the New York Islanders in Uniondale, N.Y. Lehner was called up for the third time this season. . . . Florida's David Booth broke a tie with 4 minutes, 12 seconds remaining, and the Panthers held on to beat Nashville, 3-2, in Sunrise, Fla., snapping the Predators' winning streak at six games. Rostislav Olesz had a goal and an assist for Florida.

Hat trick No. 2 for Ryan

Bobby Ryan tends to score goals in bunches, which can be good and bad for Anaheim over time.

It was all good for Ryan on Wednesday night.

Three goals gave him his second hat trick this season, and it powered the Ducks to a 7-4 win over St. Louis to close out a critical homestand in which they took five of six games.

As cold as he was in December, Ryan suddenly has turned it on in January. The former Cherry Hill resident scored six times during the Ducks' current three-game winning streak. He has 21 goals for the season.

"I certainly wasn't hot for quite some time," Ryan told the Orange County Register. "To be on the other side of things and have the ball rolling in the right direction is a huge benefit for me."

Personnel moves

Dallas traded left winger Fabian Brunnstrom to Toronto for right winger Mikhail Stefanovich in an exchange of minor-league players that saves money for the Stars.

Phoenix recalled forward Mikkel Boedker from its AHL affiliate in San Antonio.
